In Admission is based on the completion of the College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) with a 3.2 high school GPA average; or a 2.50 GPA and a minimum of 16 on the composite ACT, or 760 on the SAT reading/mathematics; students who complete the CPC with a class rank in the top 50 percent and a minimum of 16 on the ACT or 760 on the SAT; students wit a 2.00 GPA, and 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT critical reading /mathematics; and students who meet the certification requirements for the national Collegiate Athletic Association. The College Preparatory Curriculum includes 4 English courses, 3 Mathematics courses, 3 Science Courses, 3 courses in the Social Sciences, 1 or 2 Computer Science courses, and a foreign language. Now, Mississippi residents and do not meet the requirements may enter the Academic Screening Program prior to the beginning of the summer session, and gain later admission and academic assistance if they have a minimum 2.00 GPA average.
Basic Information (Description):
The BA in Anthropology offers students the opportunity to study the human being in a comparative manner. The objective of the major is to understand our current economic, environmental, and political issues based on the reconstruction of the subsistence strategies of our earliest ancestors. The curriculum offers students courses in human evolution, world cultures, human cultural and biological adaption, and archaeology. The course dynamics are in the classroom, in the lab, and in summer filed schools. Required core courses are: cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, archaeology, and anthropological theory.
