Admission criteria to San Jose State University are the following: students must be high school graduates, completion of high school classes with "C" or better, and meet the Minimum Eligibility Index (for graduates of California high schools, or residents is 2900 and for non residents who are not graduates of California high schools the minimum index is 3502). The MIE is calculated by using the SAT I total score + 800 x (high school grade point average), or (10 x ACT composite score) + (200 x high school grade point average). Students are also required to take the following high school courses: 4 years of English, 3 years of Mathematics, 3 years of Natural Science, 3 years of Social Science, 2 years of Foreign Language, and 3 electives, with a C or better
Basic Information (Description):
The BA in Anthropology offers students the necessary tools to understand how individuals have lived in the past and present and how they have faced salient issues throughout time. The major prepares students to do research, analyze data, and communicate clearly and effectively. Students are required to complete a core area that provides them with the necessary foundation in anthropology, as well as courses in Cultural Anthropology, Archeology, and Physical Anthropology. The major provides the appropriate preparation for professional school and many other professions that require working in a culturally diverse environment. Candidates are requires to take 42 credit hours of General Education Requirements, 6 units in American Institutions, 2 in Physical Education, 3 pre-requisites for the major, and 42 requirements in the major. These include: 15 units of core courses, 3 units in research methods, 6 units in Cultural Anthropology, 6 units in Archeology, 6 units in Physical Anthropology, and 6 Anthropology electives.
