Admision Requirements:
The school looks for candidates with prior study in the discipline, however other backgrounds are also considered candidates if they express academic interest in the discipline. Additionally, the program requires strong prior academic performance, high GRE scores, and good recommendations certainly. The value added by life/work experience, cultural heritage, international region of origin or interest, may prove just as compelling. The common thread among successful applicants is a mix of intelligence, curiosity, and experience, passion, drive, and a strong commitment to an international career. Candidates should submit the following: a personal statement of purpose outlining interest, educational and career goals, Two to four letters of recommendation. Separate forms are not provided for recommendations; therefore, recommendations should be sent on school or company letterhead for this purpose, and a résumé. Additionally they should submit the following directly to UK Graduate School: Graduate School Application form, Official GRE scores sent directly by ETS, Two official transcripts from all colleges attended (must be sent directly by the Registrar's office and not by applicant), Application fee ($40 domestic; $55 international), and TOEFL scores sent by ETS (only if your native language is not English and you attend an institution outside the United States).
Basic Information (Description):
The MA in Anthropology offers students training in archaeology, cultural, and biological anthropology. The program aims at training professional anthropologists, with a strong training in theoretical and field areas. Students pick their program of study, picking also an area of specialization among: Anthropological Archaeology (pre-historical and early historical archaeology emphasizing social, political, and economic theory to study past societies and historical change); Livelihoods, Ecology, and Development (themes based on livelihoods, ecology, and development); or Medical Anthropology ( by using post-structuralist, feminist, cultural, bio-cultural, and critical theories the student will examine power relations, the dynamics of culture, and gendered and raced dimensions of health and illness).
