University of Louisiana Laffayette offers two kinds of admission: guaranteed admission (when all the admission criteria are met) or Admission by Commettee ( students who do not meet the admission criteria). In-state candidates must Complete the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school core curriculum and a mathematics ACT score of at least 18 (430 Math SAT) or an English ACT score of at least 18 (450 Verbal/Critical Reasoning SAT), or a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher using an unweighted 4.0 scale or ACT composite score of at least 23 (SAT 1060--combined Math & Verbal/Critical Reasoning) with at least a 2.0 GPA or 3) or rank in the top 25% of the high school graduating class and at least a 2.0 GPA. Out of state studnets are considered for guaranteed freshman admission if they meet the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school core curriculum. 1. have a high school GPA of at least 2.5, and at least an 18 math or 18 English ACT, and 23 ACT composite, and rank in the top 25% of their graduating class or 2. have at least an 18 math or 18 English ACT, and 26 ACT composite. Out of state students who do not meet these criteria for guaranteed freshman admission can apply for Admission by Committee.
Basic Information (Description):
Programs in General Studies are designed to meet the needs of students who would benefit from a program with a high amount of flexibility. These programs allow students to design their own degree by choosing coursework from several disciplines. General Studies programs may have special appeal to mature students returning to college with new interests, to those changing their majors very late in their academic careers, to students attending at night or irregularly, and to those with no particular interest in a traditional program. The Bachelor of General Studies will be awarded upon the successful completion of the following (total of 124 hours): Basic Educational Requirements: English Composition, Communication, Literature (may include Foreign Language Literature), History, Mathematics (may include 3 hours of Statistics), Biological and Physical Science (BIOL,CHEM,MCBL,GEOL,PHYS), Behavioral Sciences, Arts/Humanities/Behavioral Sciences. Furthermore, twenty-four (24) hours must be completed from one of the five concentration blocks, Twelve (12) semester hours must be completed from each of three of the five concentration blocks to meet this 36 semester hour requirement, Twelve (12) hours of Enrichment Electives may be taken in the same block as that chosen for the student's concentration area to form a 36 hour major. Twelve (12) hours of Enrichment Electives chosen from a block different from the concentration may be combined with six (6) hours of free electives to complete a minor in that block, twenty two (22) credit hours are selected in consultation with the student's advisor. One three-hour course must be a computer literacy unless one is taken somewhere else in the curriculum and one three-hour course must be a writing-intensive course unless applied elsewhere in the curriculum.
