Application requirements include: the Pomona Application, an application supplement, application fee, school report completed by counselor and a mid-year report in mid-February, two teacher evaluations (mathematics, English, science, social studies, and foreign language teachers only), official transcripts, and SAT Reasoning and two SAT Subject Test or ACT. Students are encouraged to have an interview, and to visit the school.
Basic Information (Description):
The American Studies Program offers students an opportunity to understand American culture in the past and present. The program is in essence interdisciplinary offering courses such as: social history of North American Art, History of Jazz, Race and ethnicity in the US, Religion, magic and Science in Early America, among many others. Students are encouraged to think creatively about American culture in terms of consumer culture, religious views, civil rights, frontier, using different means to understand it. Students are required to take a core set of courses in history and literature in addition to their options in terms of electives. Students are also encouraged to study abroad.
