If students have not yet graduated from high school, a transcript showing all completed work may be accepted for early admission. In terms of Academic requirements, students must comply with core public university requirements, and a combination of cumulative GPA and test scores. In addition to the core curriculum required of all UI students and the study of a foreign language (required of all students seeking a B.A. degree), all English majors take approximately the same courses during the first two years: The Literature of Western Civilization, and Reading - Writing – Texts. Late in the sophomore year, the curricula diverge to accommodate the variety of goals that students studying English have: The Literature Emphasis, The Creative Writing Emphasis, The Professional Emphasis, or The Teaching Emphasis Bachelor's Degree
