Admission criteria for the FSU are: having graduated form a regionally accredited high school, if the student is a Florida resident, he/she should present at least a “B+” average in all academic subjects and test scores higher than 23 (composite) on the ACT or 1100 (critical plus math) on the SAT. The grade requirement for non-Florida residents is even higher. The Committee takes into account, the essay the students write, the pattern and quality of courses and curriculum, advanced classes, grades, class rank, and academic objectives. Students who bring outstanding athletic, visual and performing arts skills or, CARE applicants will have special consideration at the time of admission. FSU urges students to take in their high school career: 4 years of English, 3 years of Mathematics, 3 years of Natural Science, 3 years of Social Science, 2 years of Foreign Language, and 3 electives in order to fulfill the minimum required for admission.
Basic Information (Description):
The BA in Classical Civilizations prepares students to become teachers or scholars, seeking an interdisciplinary approach to understanding history, literature, and the material culture of the ancient world. The major makes an attempt at having a traditional humanities training as well as a more contemporary outlook at theory and criticism. All courses emphasize critical thinking, analysis, and effective speaking and writing skills. Alumi/ae have gone to careers in philology, archeology, museums, graduate school, and professional careers in general. The major requires 30 semester hours in Greek and Latin, picked together with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. Students should take courses at the 4000 level, minimum in one of the languages. If the student is looking for a secondary school certification, he/she must take 24 additional hours of Latin.
