Admision Requirements:
Admission to the University of Maryland is based on academic performance. The committee focuses on previous academic achievement and extracurricular activities to make a decision. Students must show that they have taken in high school, at least four units of English, two unit of Mathematics, three units of Social Sciences, two units of Physical Education, and electives. Students are also required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
Basic Information (Description):
The Italian Program offers students an opportunity to gain linguistic and cultural understanding of Italian, Italy, and Italian-speaking countries. Students are urged to take courses with a certain order so that the foundation of language is clear and well-laid. There is a sequence in which students are required to take the language courses as well, divided by skills (speaking, reading, listening, and writing sequences). The curriculum offers advanced courses in Literature, opera, the renaissance, civilization, cinema, modern Italian fiction, and theater, among many others. Students may choose between two concentrations in Language, Culture, and Literature; or Business Italian. The program seems to be well-directed and organized. Students are also encouraged to study abroad in Italy.
