Freshmen admission is based on an evaluation of a range of factors including high school course work, ACT composite score or SATI (we do not use SAT II for any admissions purposes), cumulative high school percentile ranking (HSPR) at the end of the junior year, activities, service, previous work, and information provided in the student's essays. All applicants must complete the Personal Statement and should include information on their interest/experience in the intended major. Students may be asked to audition before being accepted to the program
Basic Information (Description):
Students in the BS in Ballet program receive professional ballet training in classical and contemporary dance within a university environment full of academic and artistic opportunities. The ballet faculty includes artists who have been soloists, principal dancers, and teachers with some of the world's major ballet companies. Ballet facilities include three spacious studios with state-of-the-art resilient floors in the Musical Arts Center. Performances are presented on the stage of the Musical Arts Center, which is modeled after the Metropolitan Opera House and includes the largest university performance stage in North America. The IU Ballet Theater offers three performances a year, which include classical and contemporary works, as well as new works choreographed by IU faculty. Guest teachers, choreographers, and artists include many major figures in the field of ballet, such as Julie Kent and Patricia McBride, Performance opportunities incluye: the Fall Ballet, The Nutcracker, the Spring Ballet, and Performance opportunities with the IU Opera Theater and the IU Theatre, as well as lecture demonstrations and other productions with the School of Music
