Prospective students of the sociology major are offered training in critical analytical skills, social relations, social systems, and varied subfields that include urban sociology racial and ethnic relations, among others. Since sociology is a broad field, graduates can find careers in medicine, law, market research, criminal justice, non profit organizations, and others. Required courses include: introductory sociology courses, six 200 or above level sociology courses, six 300 level courses, 2 seminars, and 2 statistics classes.
Basic Information (Description):
Students majoring in astronomy develop the necessary mathematical skills and physical insight to understand the universe from a modern scientific point of view. In addition to course work, most students participate in research at the forefront of Astronomy and Planetary Science. The major allows student to be highly prepared for graduate school and for technical and scientific careers. Lower-level required courses for the major are: the solar system and beyond (AS 202-203); Planetary Physics (AS 311); Stellar and Galactic Astrophysics (AS 312). Higher-level courses are available as well as direct research with faculty members. Students usually accompany the major by taking courses in disciplines such as computer science, math, and geology.
