Admision Requirements:
University of Louisiana Laffayette offers two kinds of admission: guaranteed admission (when all the admission criteria are met) or Admission by Commettee ( students who do not meet the admission criteria). In-state candidates must Complete the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school core curriculum and a mathematics ACT score of at least 18 (430 Math SAT) or an English ACT score of at least 18 (450 Verbal/Critical Reasoning SAT), or a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher using an unweighted 4.0 scale or ACT composite score of at least 23 (SAT 1060--combined Math & Verbal/Critical Reasoning) with at least a 2.0 GPA or 3) or rank in the top 25% of the high school graduating class and at least a 2.0 GPA. Out of state studnets are considered for guaranteed freshman admission if they meet the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school core curriculum. 1. have a high school GPA of at least 2.5, and at least an 18 math or 18 English ACT, and 23 ACT composite, and rank in the top 25% of their graduating class or 2. have at least an 18 math or 18 English ACT, and 26 ACT composite. Out of state students who do not meet these criteria for guaranteed freshman admission can apply for Admission by Committee.
Basic Information (Description):
The Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies provides the necessary tools for understanding and working with children and families in a variety of settings. The program of study focuses primarily on the various stages of human growth and development over the life span, families in society, diverse relationships within families, human sexuality, family resource management, parenting and family law and public policy. Students in this program are trained to articulate knowledge of child/adolescent development, adult life stages and human relations into service-oriented assistance. To obtain a BS in Child and Family Studies, students are required to complete 42 semester hours of child and family studies courses which includes an internship in an appropriate community agency. The curriculum also includes courses in such areas as math, English, modern languages, history, behavioral sciences, computer science, the arts, statistics and biological and physical sciences. In addition, students must complete an 18 hour minor in another field (such as psychology, modern languages, business, etc.)
