The Admission’s Committee at Dickinson College evaluates student’s: high school academic records, to weigh in the type and quality of classes taken, high school ranking, and the quality of the school; an official recommendation of the student’s guidance counselor, headmaster, principal, or college adviser, and a recommendation letter or letters form teachers; SAT I or ACT scores are not required for admission, but are required for those students applying for scholarships; and extra-curricular and leadership activities.
Basic Information (Description):
The BA in Sociology offers students an opportunity to examine the cultural social constructs; people create to understand and examine the world they live in. The curriculum focuses on family, organized crime, divisions of race, gender, social class, religious cults, and shared beliefs in a common culture. Students get a firm theoretical and research foundation, and are also encouraged to apply the knowledge they have learned in class to practical policy situations. Courses offered include: Global Inequality, Classical Sociological theory, Gender and the Media, Race and Gender, Postmodernism Culture, and Communication, among many others. Students are highly encouraged to study abroad in any of the college’s programs (many times having in mind their foreign language acquisition process) and shorter mosaic programs offered by the Department.
