Admision Requirements:
Admission requirements to Wellesley College is very academically rigorous. Students must submit their high school transcripts, and prove that they have pushed themselves through accelerated or advanced-level courses. Students should also take the SATs (the average score being, 700 in Verbal, 694 in Writing, and 687 in Math).
Basic Information (Description):
The BA in Sociology offers students the opportunity to gain a strong foundation in theory and research methods taking four "core" theory and methods, as well as other courses of interest to the student. Students take introductory courses at the 100 level, at the 200 level (provide more demanding experience and training in sociological analysis, focusing on a specific institution or process), and at the 300 level (research methodology.) Students will then be able to describe patterns of human interaction, make statistical inferences, test theories and specific hypothesis, as well as prove the reliability of data. The four "core" courses are: Classical Sociological Theory, Contemporary Sociological Theory, Introduction to Social Science Data Analysis, and Methods of Social Research. The department offers concentrations in: deviance, law, and social control; work and organizations; health, science, and technology; and mass communication and popular culture
